Proper care after a hair transplant: what you need to know

transplantace vlasů

Hair transplantation is a procedure that can significantly improve self-confidence and quality of life. To achieve the best and most natural results, proper aftercare is crucial. The first few weeks after the procedure determine how well the grafts will take and how the hair will look in the future.

The first days after the procedure

  • Follow your doctor’s instructions – each clinic may have slightly different recommendations.

  • Sleep – it is advisable to sleep with your head slightly elevated to reduce swelling.

  • Touching the scalp – avoid scratching or putting pressure on the transplanted grafts.

Washing hair and scalp

  • Day 1–2 after the procedure

    • Do not wash your hair

  • Day 3–10 (morning/forenoon)

    • It is important to start gentle washing with a special shampoo (free from sulfates, silicones, parabens).

    • Applying shampoo – first lather the shampoo in your palm with water and then apply it over the entire scalp, never rub with your fingers.

    • Leave it on for 10–15 minutes.

    • Rinse with lukewarm water.

    • Drying – gently pat dry with a paper towel, do not rub (use a hair dryer only after several weeks, and only with cold air).

    • Apply serum.

Tip: After transplantation, gentle products from the Sphagnum Botanicals range are highly recommended.

  • Hair Growth Shampoo – after healing it can support microcirculation and natural growth of new grafts.

Products suitable after transplantation

  • Gentle regenerating shampoos – ideally formulated for sensitive skin, e.g. with soothing ingredients (panthenol, aloe vera, peat).

  • Hair growth serums – after healing (usually after 3–4 weeks) serums can be introduced.

  • Scalp hydration – light solutions or sprays against itching and dryness.

Sphagnum Botanicals recommendations:

  • Organic Peat – can be used after healing as a natural treatment that soothes the scalp, hydrates, and supports regeneration.

  • Hair Therapy Conditioner – suitable for gentle hydration and strengthening of hair in the period when new grafts are starting to settle.

  • Hair Growth Serum – the natural Sphagnum Botanicals serum is a powerful starter for hair growth. It soothes inflammation, cleans clogged follicles, eliminates Demodex mites (tiny parasitic arthropods living on mammalian skin), delivers vitamin B complex and biotin to the roots, and improves scalp circulation.

What to avoid

  • Direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least 1–2 months.

  • Swimming pools and seawater (chlorine and salt irritate the scalp).

  • Intense exercise and sweating for the first 2–3 weeks.

  • Styling products (hairspray, gel, wax) until fully healed.

Long-term care

  • Transplanted hair requires the same care as healthy hair, but with greater emphasis on gentleness.

  • It is recommended to use trichological products that support microcirculation and scalp nutrition.

  • Supplements (e.g. We Care) with biotin, zinc, iron, and B vitamins can support hair growth.

  • Regular trichologist check-ups help monitor scalp condition and hair quality.

Proper aftercare following a hair transplant is a combination of patience, gentle handling, and suitable products. If you follow the clinic’s recommendations and complement them with targeted home care, you have a great chance that your new hair will take root, thicken, and look natural for many years.
